Japan Portion

JAIMS provides the curriculum for the Japan segment of the JEMBA, which is held during the final three months of the program.

Lecture Series and Paper

In Tokyo, attend a lecture series by Knowledge Management guru and JAIMS President Ikujiro Nonaka. Apply the Knowledge Management framework to your internship organization. Present your analysis and findings at the conclusion of your internship as the final requirement for the program.

Internship

The internship is the capstone experience of the JEMBA program, when you put into practice the business knowledge, language, and intercultural skills you have learned in Hawaii. Engage in the day-to-day operations of an organization in Japan. Practice Japanese business and communication techniques. See how business is conducted first-hand.

The faculty advisor is Dr. Ikujiro Nonaka. Dr. Blair Odo, JAIMS Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, manages the Japan segment and coordinates the internships. Support is provided by the JAIMS Promotion Division (JPD) in Tokyo

Students work full-time at their host organizations, engaged in day-to-day operations to the extent possible, and periodically consult with their internship mentor. In January, students are required to submit a final report and give an oral presentation about their internship. The internship position is unpaid, and the student bears all expenses incurred (housing, meals, and transportation).

While the JEMBA program cannot guarantee a particular type of internship or organization, every effort is made to match students with internships reflecting their preferences.

Graduation Ceremonies

JAIMS hosts graduation ceremonies in Tokyo in April following completion of the in-country internship/field study.
