Overview
The Takuma Yamamoto e-Learning Center
is a technology-based information services center for JAIMS students,
faculty, staff, and alumni. The facilities and meeting spaces support
collaborative group study and enable the use of electronic, multimedia,
and library resources.
Resources
The Center features well-lit open-space
workstations, study carrels, private and semi-private group-study
areas, and a media lab with audio-visual equipment. The entire building features wireless
network connectivity.
The Center’s library resources include:
- Over 2,500 books, and other printed and audio-visual
materials on U.S. and Asian business, intercultural management,
communication, entrepreneurship, technology, history, language,
culture, and more – all searchable with a Web-based
catalog;
- Online business-related databases featuring full-text
articles and citations to over 4,000 business periodicals; and
- Internship and research reports of former students
in both hard copy and online formats.
JAIMS students who need assistance
with research and the use of computer applications may request
assistance from the Center’s staff. The Center’s staff
also works with JAIMS instructors to develop and support their
efforts of integrating technology into their classes.
Online Catalog for Finding Printed
Resources
To search the JAIMS’ collection
of materials, use the Spectrum
5 Online Web Catalog. To access the catalog, type your JAIMS
network user ID and password.
Borrowing Books and Other Resources
Please complete the book borrowing
procedures posted at the circulation counter. Complete the borrowing
card or send an e-mail with the appropriate information.
The loan period is two weeks unless
otherwise specified. Renewals may be requested.
Periodicals
Current periodicals (newspapers and
magazines) are available for use in the Center. This policy is
to ensure the availability of these items to everyone. Therefore,
please use these items in the Center and return them to the appropriate
shelf when you are done.
Internship and Research Reports
Select internship and research reports
by previous JAIMS students are kept in a special "closed" collection.
To request and/or borrow the hard copy
of a report, complete the blue Internship and Research Report Request
Form in the Center or send an
with the required information (author's name, class, title of report,
etc.).
To view a “soft copy” (PDF
format) of the report, use the Spectrum
5 Online Catalog. To access the catalog, type your JAIMS network
user ID and password.
Online Database
The EBSCOhost
Business Source Premier Database is available for retrieving
full-text articles on business-related topics. For remote access
via any Web browser, please refer to the handout given to you
during the orientation for your user name and password.
Friendly Reminders
Please refrain from smoking, eating,
and drinking in the Center. JAIMS uses the honor system for its
resources. We trust that you’ll help us care for our resources
by borrowing them properly and returning them on time.
