Chairman of BT Japan Revisits JAIMS

January 17, 2002

HONOLULUOn Tuesday, January 15, 2002, Koshiro Kitazato, chairman of British Telecom (BT) Japan, former Fujitsu executive and the first JAIMS vice president, met with current Japan-focused MBA (JEMBA) and China-focused MBA (CHEMBA) students during a special coffee hour at JAIMS.

With his extensive business knowledge and experience, Kitazato focused his talk on the telecommunications sector, Japan's uncertain economy, and Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's efforts toward reform.

"Japan is in a very interesting time," Kitazato commented, "Koizumi holds 80% of peoples support due to his advocation of drastic reform in Japan."

Kitazato's words were especially relevant to the JEMBA and CHEMBA students since they will be participating in 3-month internships in Japan and China later this year. To these students, Kitazato advised them to become global communicators when on the internship and to take advantage of JAIMS' resources.

"JAIMS has a very wide network," he said, "I often encounter someone affiliated with JAIMS or is an alumni, so be sure to utilize it."

As chairman of BT Japan, Kitazato was in Honolulu to attend the Pacific Telecommunication Council (PTC) from January 13-17. BT Japan, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BT which is the worldwide communications company based in the U.K.
