Ray Tsuchiyama of Tegic Communications Speaks to JAIMS Students

HONOLULU—Ray Tsuchiyama, director of business development for Tegic Communications in Japan, was at JAIMS last week and spoke to ICMP, JEMBA and CHEMBA students about his life and career experience.

Founded in 1995, Tegic Communications develops and markets communication technologies for the telecommunications and computing industries. The company has offices in Seattle, Tokyo and Hong Kong. In December 1999, Tegic Communications merged with America Online, the world's leading interactive services provider. TegicÕs line of products includes the award-winning T9 Text Input, which is licensed to major consumer electronics and communications equipment manufacturers such as Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola, Mitsubishi, NEC, Philips, Qualcomm, Samsung, Siemens, Sony and many others. It is available in 14 languages, including Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Spanish.

Tsuchiyama shared his views on AOL/Netscape in Japan and the future of mobile Internet. "In the Internet business, branding is very important, and content is the key," he said. He predicts that wireless connection to the Internet will be the future and sees mobile communication as an area for growth.

In addition to sharing his work experience, which includes managing the Japan Office for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tsuchiyama also gave advice on how to succeed in the high tech field.

Tsuchiyama has been active in telecommunication issues, including 3G cellular standards, Internet and e-commerce, and is a frequent speaker in the U.S., Japan and Taiwan. On June 27, he will speak at the three-day "Doing Business with Japan" seminar sponsored by the International Business Education and Research (IBEAR) Program of the University of Southern California.

Tsuchiyama also writes articles for various publications, such as The Wall Street Journal.
