Violinist Ikko Kawai Captivates a JAIMS Audience

HONOLULU—Non-native speakers of Japanese who want o measure their business Japanese language proficiency may take the JETRO Business Japanese Language Proficiency Test at JAIMS on June 3, 2000. Deadline to register for the test is April 14.

The test, developed by JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization), with the support of over 600 companies in Japan, is a method of assessing the Japanese language reading, writing and speaking proficiency of non-native speakers who want to work in Japan or for Japanese companies. It is the first international test for certifying skills. 

The listening and reading comprehension section of the test is given in three levels:

Test-takers may take two levels, and fees are discounted when two levels are taken ($70 for Levels 1 and 2, $60 for Levels 2 and 3).

Those who pass Level 1 will be eligible to take the conversation section, the JETRO Oral Communication Test (JOCT), generally administered in Japan three months after the Listening and Reading Comprehension Test.
