Peter Drucker Comes to Honolulu
HONOLULU Peter F. Drucker,
the "Father of Modern Management" and preeminent management
thinker and teacher, and other distinguished management professors
will be in Honolulu on January 13, 2000 for a half-day executive
forum at the Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki. The executive forum, which
is open to the public, is a part of an invitation-only executive
roundtable that will be attended by senior-level business leaders
from the United States, Japan and other countries.
Co-hosted by JAIMS and the Peter
F. Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University,
the "Executive Leadership for the New Millennium" roundtable
will feature keynote presentations by Drucker based on his new book,
Management Challenges for the 21st Century.
Roundtable discussions, led
by management professors from various organizations, will examine
timely and relevant issues facing corporate and nonprofit organization
leaders in the dynamic era of globalization. The roundtable will
address critical leadership issues through the exchange of experiences
and expectations from different cultures and contexts, with Drucker
laying the foundation for the discussions.
Other roundtable presenters
include Cornelis A. de Kluyver, dean of the Peter F. Drucker Graduate
School of Management; Richard Ellsworth, professor of management
and co-director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Leadership
at the Drucker School; Ikujiro Nonaka, founding dean of the Graduate
School of Knowledge Science at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science
and Technology and the Xerox Distinguished Professor of Knowledge
at Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley;
Vijay Sathe, professor of management at the Drucker School; and
Hirotaka Takeuchi, dean of the Graduate School of International
Business Strategy at Hitotsubashi University.
The January 13 public forum,
with a presentation by Drucker, will be followed by a panel discussion
with de Kluyver, Ellsworth, Nonaka, Sathe and Takeuchi, and audience
participation. The forum will be held at the Halekulani Hotel Ballroom
from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
"Its exciting that
Professor Drucker has chosen Hawaii as the major venue to open the
21st century millennium," said Glenn Miyataki, president
of JAIMS and co-chair of the roundtable. "An outlook for global
managers could possibly emerge from this prestigious group of senior-level
business leaders from the U.S., Japan, Europe, and other Asian countries
who will discuss and debate executive leadership and action in todays
global environment. We are pleased that Professor Drucker will be
able to meet many members of our community and receive their thoughts
on his management challenges in such a public forum."
"It is a rare opportunity
to be able to create different schools of thought on a global basis,"
said Andrea McAleenan, Drucker co-chair of the roundtable. "To
expand Peter Druckers philosophy and core values through dialogues
with such a distinguished group of participants ensures that Honolulu
indeed lives up to its reputation of being the bridge between the
East and West."
