EWKLP Spring 2009 Class: A Trip to the Zoo
As part of their module on Knowledge Management and Innovation, the EWKLP Spring 2009 students enjoyed a field trip to the Honolulu Zoo. Professor Ikujiro Nonaka asked the students to visit the zoo to practice the knowledge creation process. The clear skies and cool breezes were perfect for a leisurely stroll through the exhibits.
In small groups and armed with Post-It notes, the 33 EWKLP students made careful observations, recorded their ideas, and used an idea-generating methodology that they had learned the previous day to create a concept that could be used to explain the zoo.
Upon returning to JAIMS, the students shared their suggestions for future innovation at the zoo. Nonaka concluded the activity with a real-life example of another zoo in Japan that was successfully revitalized through concept-creation and innovation.
