Chinese Journalists Exchange Views with CHEMBA Students

May 7, 2003

HONOLULU — On May 7, three Chinese journalists visited JAIMS and had an informative and friendly exchange with current CHEMBA students over lunch.

The journalists are among nine Chinese journalists from the China Daily, the Xinhua News Agency, and the People’s Daily. They are visiting Hawaii as part of an annual program to train in Western-style journalism and to have first-hand cross-cultural experiences.

The visiting journalists were Judy Pengyun Shi from China Daily in Beijing, Maggie Chang Lu from China Daily in Shanghai, and Douglas Gang Chen from Xinhua News Agency in Beijing.

Faculty, students, and journalists exchanged views on many topics including race discrimination, China’s plans on development of the Great West, and the current status of SARS and its impact on the Chinese economy.

The journalists are from the Parvin Program supported by the Parvin Fund and Freedom Forum and organized by the University of Hawaii Communications School.
