Larry Joy Kiyohiro
Larry Kiyohiro previously was a portfolio manager for First
Hawaiian Bank, where he had discretionary authority for over $200
million in funds. Representative clients included the Hawaii Community
Foundation ($40 million), the UH Endowment Fund ($20 million),
Kapiolani Health System ($20 million), and the bank's Equity Income
Fund ($30 million). His investment track record is successful,
placing his client accounts consistently in the top quarter of
all money managers nationwide.
Larry remains active in educating the community, and regularly
teaches advanced investment courses at the UH Outreach College and
the Kaimuki School for Adults. He is also on the faculty for the
American Institute of Banking, as well as the Japan-America Institute
of Management Science. Many people know Larry through his "Akamai
Investor" radio show, which previously aired on KHVH and K-108
on the weekends.
He has worked as an investment banker for Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank's
securities affiliate for over 5 years in Tokyo, where he designed
mutual funds and raised capital for foreign governments and multi-national
corporations using advanced financial engineering techniques. Larry's
international experience is exhaustive, particularly in Asia, and
even includes such exotic countries as Nauru, Gabon, Cyprus and
the Faroe Islands.
He currently represents the U.S. Department of the Interior as
an instructor/consultant to the Federated States of Micronesia and
the Republic of Palau. Larry teaches investment coursework to government
officials and consults with the treasury and finance personnel in
managing their public trust funds.
Apart from devoting his time to managing money for clients, Larry
is also a licensed attorney with a very limited practice involving
securities laws and investments. He graduated cum laude from the
Gonzaga University School of Law as a full scholarship student,
and did his undergraduate work at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
