Housing Registry

The JAIMS Housing Registry assists JAIMS students in finding suitable housing located off-campus since JAIMS does not have dormitory facilities. This site contains a list of accommodations in Honolulu near the JAIMS campus as well information that may help you in your search. The registry is included in your tuition and is available to you prior to your enrollment in a JAIMS program. A user ID and password are required to use the registry. If you have questions and/or need additional information regarding housing, please contact the student services specialist via telephone: (808) 396-7106, fax: (808) 396-7112, or .

Housing

The JAIMS campus is located in Hawaii Kai, a suburb in East Honolulu. Housing location is subject to personal taste; some participants prefer the activity surrounding Waikiki over the quietness of Hawaii Kai. Monthly housing rental fees and transportation should be considered when deciding where to live in Hawaii.

Some participants decide to share an apartment or a house with a host family or classmates, while others prefer to live alone. Such a decision should reflect your individual preference. Housing in Hawaii is expensive; sharing can help defray costs. While private, fully furnished studios and one-bedroom apartments may cost anywhere from $1,600+ per month, you can share an apartment or rent a room in a house (fully furnished) for between $500-$900 per month.

While it is important for you to be flexible, it is also important to consider your wants and needs in terms of accommodation. For instance:

  • Location: Is the unit within walking distance to JAIMS, bicycle distance to JAIMS, or close to the city bus line?
  • Cost: What is the maximum monthly rent you wish to spend?
  • Amenities: Is a private bathroom, telephone in the room, place with access to a swimming pool, etc. preferred? Is parking available? If yes, is it free? If not, where do you park? Who pays for the utilities (electricity, gas, water, etc.)?

JAIMS maintains the Housing Registry, a housing database that contains listings of available rental units in the Hawaii Kai area.
