There are three laser
printers at JAIMS. Two are located in the first floor computer lab
(room 122 and room 123) and one is located in room 209 on the second
floor (for those with laptop computers). UnipriNT debits each studentês
individual account 5 cents for each printed page. Accounts and print
jobs are password protected. Print jobs queue up at each print station
until they are "released," either by printing or deleting.
Print jobs left longer than 24 hours will be automatically deleted.
How to use UnipriNT
- JAIMS charges 5 cents a page for laser
printing. However, all current students are each given a set
amount of "free" credit for the duration of their
program of study. Additional credits may be purchased as needed
at the Reception Counter.
- Unused credit is non-refundable, and students
are encouraged to conserve resources to enable JAIMS to apply
unused credit toward resource upgrades in the Takuma Yamamoto
e-Learning Center.
- Turning on the print station equipment
at the start of the day.
- Turn on the printer, computer and monitor
at the print station.
- Log on: Type _________ (same as label
located on computerÀ i.e., prints1, prints2 or prints3)
- Password: Type Password
- How to Print
- From within any program, press the PRINT
icon or use the pull-down menu.
- Create a password for the document in the "pop-up
box" at your computer (for Windows in English only). Students
can use their usual password or they can create a special password
for the document.
-
-
The printer nearest to the PC
in use will be set as the default printer. If students want to use
another printer, they must select it.
-
"Releasing" the print
job at the print station
- Log on to Pharos using an assigned user name
and password.
-
-
Highlight the job to print. Pharos
uses the documentês name as the job title.

-
Create and type a password for the
print job. This can be the same as students' assigned network login
password, or it can be a unique password for the document.
-
Check the balance of credit (5
cents a page).
-
Press the PRINT button
to "release" the print job to the printer.
-
Important: Press the
EXIT button to log out of Pharos at the print station.
- Press ESC to clear the screen.
- Students may delete their own print job
by highlighting and deleting it at the print station. Print jobs will
be held in the queue for 24 hours and then automatically deleted.
- While Japanese and Chinese language documents
can be printed, students cannot password-protect your document using
the pop-up screen. Students may release your document from the print
station in the usual manner, however.
- Document titles will also be used as the print
job title. Look for the print job title or your name in the queue
at the print station.
- Printing Problems
Depending on the problem, students might try one of the following:
- Power: Check the on/off switch.
- Paper jam: Carefully remove the paper from
the machine.
- Low toner: See a JAIMS staff member for
toner replacement.
- Data error resulting in blank sheets with
a few words at the top or bottom of the sheet: Notify Soutchay
or a staff member immediately so that the print job can be deleted.
- Printer cable: Disconnect and reconnect
the cable.
- Printer configuration: From the printing
menu, check to see that the proper printer is selected.
- Not enough credit in account: Purchase
credit at the Reception Counter.
- Cannot log-in at the print station: Type assigned
user name and password carefully. They are the same user name and
password students use to log into the JAIMS network.
- If a printing problem was the result of a printer
malfunction (i.e., paper jam, low toner) and the account was debited,
the account will by credited accordingly. Please notify Soutchay,
the receptionist or the night monitor, and bring evidence of the problem,
if possible. Credit for all other problems will be considered
on a case-by-case basis.
- To print from a laptop directly to a JAIMS printer,
Soutchay must install the UnipriNT client software onto the laptop.
Students must schedule an appointment with him. Alternatively, students
may copy documents onto a floppy disk (or place it in the share folder
on the network) from a laptop and then print them from a PC in the
computer room. The UnipriNT account will be debited accordingly.
- To check the UnipriNT account balance, students
must log in at any print station. The account balance will appear
at the bottom of the screen. Exit when done.
- When printing PDF files, the procedures
are the same (i.e., creating a password at your computer, releasing
the document at the print station). However, there might be
a delay of a few seconds because of the documentês length, but
breaking up the print job into smaller segments will help to
speed the printing. Also, the document will print only to the
computerês default printer.
