The following are types of financial assistance and awards available to eligible students.

American Association of University Women International Fellowships

  • International fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported. Selection criteria include an outstanding academic record, professional potential, and the potential of the field of study to improve lives of women and girls in the country of origin.
  • Award Amount: $18,000

Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships  (FLASF)

  • The Center for Japanese Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa administers the Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships and other scholarships.

Fujitsu Scholarship

  • Established by Fujitsu Ltd. in 1985 to commemorate its 50th anniversary, the Fujitsu Scholarship is available to citizens of selected Asia-Pacific countries in the following formats:

    • Full-tuition scholarship and a monthly stipend are available to citizens of the following countries: Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam*.

    *Special conditions apply. Please contact the Fujitsu Ltd. local affiliated office in your country/area.

    • Full-tuition scholarships (without monthly stipend) are available to legal residents of the state of Hawaii, U.S.A., and citizens of the following countries: Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan.

Heath A. Barlow Scholarship and Award

  • This award was established by the 2004-2005 JEMBA/CHEMBA class in memory of the late Heath Barlow.  The recipient, to be selected from among his/her JEMBA classmates, must exemplify the characteristics of Heath, which include being “the glue that brought the class together,” a hard worker, a giving person, and a life-loving individual. 
  • Award Amount: $250 and name engraved on the perpetual trophy, which is displayed at JAIMS

JAIMS Alumni Scholarship

  • JAIMS alumni who are interested in attending the East-West Knowledge Leaders Program.
  • Scholarship Amount: $3,000 toward EWKLP tuition

Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme Scholarship

  • Available to all EWKLP applicants who are JET Programme Alumni. Evidence/documentation of your affiliation with the JET Programme is required.
  • Award Amount: $2,000 toward EWKLP tuition

Norman Weissman Scholarship

  • Applicants must be a JEMBA student with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better in their coursework prior to their internship in Japan or the United States. Applicants must also be from a locality where a Rotary Club exists and must intern at a public relations firm or in a public relations capacity in a corporate setting.
  • Award Amount: $1,000

National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Graduate Fellowships

  • Boren Fellowships provide financial support to U.S. graduate students who include an international and language component to their graduate education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency.

PEO International Peace Scholarship Fund

  • P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship (IPS) Fund was established in 1949 to provide scholarships for international women students to pursue graduate study in the United States and Canada.

The Senator Francis A. Wong Leadership Award

  • This award is presented to the participant at the end of the program on the basis of "promising entrepreneurial skills, high ethical standards, and a respect for ethical behavior as evidenced by demonstrative initiative and leadership qualities during his or her attendance as a student of JAIMS." The recipient has his or her name engraved on the Senator Francis A. Wong Leadership Award perpetual plaque, displayed at JAIMS.
