American Association of University Women International Fellowships

  • Eligible Applicants: International female postgraduate students.
  • Description: International fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported. Selection criteria include an outstanding academic record, professional potential, and the potential of the field of study to improve lives of women and girls in the country of origin.
  • Award Amount: $18,000.

Dai Ho Chun Scholarship for International Students at the University of Hawaii

  • Eligible Applicants: Citizen of a country other than the United States. Classified full-time student who has completed at least one semester at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa, and who will be a junior, senior, or graduate student at time of award. Merit and need are also assessed.
  • Description: Dai Ho Chun, Emeritus Professor of Education established this scholarship to assist students who can promote better understanding between East and West. Previous recipients may reapply.
  • Award Amount: Up to $1,500

Financial Women International Scholarship

  • Eligible Applicants: Local scholarship available from the Hawaii Community Foundation to all women graduate students studying business (contact UH financial aid office for further information).
  • Award Amount: Varies, $2,000 average.

Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships  (FLASF)

  • Description: Subject to the availability of federal funds, the School of Pacific and Asian Studies administers the award of Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. These fellowships are funded through the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI of the National Defense Education Act of 1958.
  • Eligible Applicants: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and full-time graduate students (incoming or currently enrolled) in a program, such as JEMBA, that combines area studies and training in Japanese and other selected Asian languages. Applicants also need to have at least three years of language training in order to be considered for the FLAS Fellowships.
  • Award Amount: Academic year awardees receive a $15,000 stipend and basic tuition for two semesters, and summer awardees receive a $2,500 stipend and tuition up to $4,000

The Foundation for International Information Processing Education (FINIPED) Scholarship

  • Eligible Applicants: EWKLP: Qualified students who are Japanese citizens. JEMBA: Qualified students who are not recipients of the Fujitsu or ADB scholarship, and are not company sponsored. The JEMBA FINIPED is awarded during the Japan internship portion of the JEMBA program.
  • Award Amount: EWKLP: Up to 400,000 yen. JEMBA: Up to 500,000 yen.
  • Description: EWKLP: Selection based on written examination and interview by a FINIPED trustee in Japan before start of EWKLP. JEMBA: One scholarship is designated for former Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program participants. Selection based on previous academic achievement, leadership quality and financial need. Two scholarships designated for citizens of Japan are awarded during the Japan internship portion of JEMBA.

Francis A. Wong Award

  • Description: This award is presented to the participant at the end of the program on the basis of "promising entrepreneurial skills as evidenced by demonstrative initiative and leadership qualities during his or her attendance as a student of JAIMS." The recipient has his or her name engraved on the Francis A. Wong Award perpetual plaque, displayed at JAIMS.

Fujitsu Asia Pacific Scholarship Program

  • Eligible Applicants: The Fujitsu Scholarship is available to citizens of selected Asia-Pacific countries in the following formats:

    • Full-tuition scholarship and a monthly stipend is available to citizens of the following countries: Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam*.

    • Full-tuition scholarship only with no monthly stipend is available to legal residents of the state of Hawaii, U.S.A., and citizens of the following countries: Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan.

  • Description: Established by Fujitsu Ltd. in 1985 to commemorate its 50th anniversary

The Funika Award

  • Eligible Applicants: Available to students from developing countries who achieve an overall GPA of 4.0 in all graded courses prior to the field study in Japan or the United States.
  • Description: Established in 1998 by JAIMS alumnus Nuri Sözkesen and his wife, Ilkunur.

Goto of Hiroshima Foundation $5,000 Research/Study Grant

  • Eligible Applicants: Hawaii residents between the ages 18 and 40 who are interested in study and research on Hiroshima and Hawaii; or interested in general Japanese culture, politics, economics, or language.
  • Description: Established in 1993 by Dr. Fumiko Kaya in memory of her uncle, Katsu Goto, the purpose of the Foundation is to foster volunteer activities and research that will contribute to the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Hawaii and Japan.

Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme Scholarship

  • Eligible Applicants: Available to all EWKLP applicants who are JET program alumni.
  • Award Amount: Up to $2,000.
  • Apply: Evidence/documentation of your affiliation with the JET Programme is required.

Mildred Towle Scholarship for International Students

  • Eligible Applicants: Classified full-time undergraduate or graduate student who has completed at least one semester at the University of Hawai`i. Citizen of a country other than the United States. Students from U.S. territories are also eligible. Students whose academic program includes an Asian or Pacific focus and/or students from Asian or Pacific countries are especially encouraged to apply.

Norman Weissman Scholarship

  • Eligible Applicants: Eligible applicants must be a JEMBA student with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better in their coursework prior to their internship in Japan or the United States. Applicants must also be from a locality where a Rotary Club exists and must intern at a public relations firm or in a public relations capacity in a corporate setting.
  • Award Amount: $1,000

National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Graduate Fellowships

  • Eligible Applicants: The National Security Education Program welcomes applications from U.S. citizens enrolled in or applying to a graduate degree program in an accredited U.S. college or university located within the United States. Boren Fellowship recipients must provide evidence of admission to and enrollment in a graduate degree program at an accredited U.S. college or university located within the United States, and must be willing to enter into a service agreement.

PEO International Peace Scholarships Fund

  • Eligible Applicants: Female non-U.S. citizens.
  • Description: The International Peace Scholarship Fund is a program which provides Scholarships for international women students to pursue graduate study in the United States and Canada.
  • Award Amount: Up to $8,000.

The Rotary Foundation's Ambassadorial Scholarships

  • Eligible Applicants: International students who wish to study in the USA.
  • Description: Scholarship for one year of study in an overseas university as an "Ambassador of Goodwill." Students are required to speak at various Rotary club meetings and functions during the scholarship period and after returning home.
  • Award Amount: Up to $25,000.
