Computer resources are integrated throughout JAIMS
for the conduct of JAIMS business or study.
Please observe the rules and policies listed below to help us maintain
a pleasant environment conducive to study and learning.
- Do not bring food or drinks in the Media Lab or the Computer
Classroom on the first floor. Trash should be deposited into
wastebaskets.
- Students may use computers for recreation (e.g. , computer
games); however, students who wish to use computers for class assignments
have priority access to computers.
- Friends and family members are not allowed to
use computer equipment or occupy any seat at a computer that might prevent
another student from using the computer.
- Keep all conversation and computer audio at a reasonable
volume to avoid disturbing others.
- Do not install software on JAIMS computers unless permission
is obtained from the Manager of IT and Equipment Support.
- Do not attempt to modify the computer systems or software
in any unauthorized manner. The use of invasive software, such as "worms"
and "viruses" destructive to computer systems, is illegal.
- Save all documents on your personal floppy and zip disks;
a software program called Deep Freeze will clear all unauthorized programs
and documents from computers when computers are rebooted.
- Students' entire e-mailbox "storage" on the
JAIMS server is limited to 5 MB. When this amount is exceeded, students
will not be able to receive new messages. We recommend, therefore, that
students read their e-mail daily and clean out their mailbox on a regular
basis. The e-mail messages students send and receive must be smaller
than 2 MB.
- Messages or downloaded data must not contain content
that may reasonably be considered offensive or disruptive to any student
or staff. Offensive content includes, but is not limited to sexual comments
or images, racial slurs, gender-specific comments or any comments that
would offend someone on the basis of age, race, sex, sexual orientation,
religion, national origin, ancestry, disability, citizenship, marital
status, veteran status, or arrest and court record.
- Abide by copyright laws when using information from the
Internet.
- Immediately report violations of this policy to the IT
and Equipment Support Manager, Takuma Yamamoto e-Learning Center Manager,
or the VP for Academic Affairs.
JAIMS reserves the right to retrieve
and review any message composed, sent, received, or downloaded.
Please note that even when a message is deleted or erased, it is
still possible to recreate the message; therefore, messages cannot be
considered private. JAIMS has
the right to monitor Internet use at any time, including Web sites that
accessed and information downloaded.
JAIMS reserves the right to revoke the account of any user who
does not observe the rules outlined in this policy. |
